What is "Uncommitted"?

The Democratic Party held a vote to determine who the nominee for president in 2024 will be – called the democratic primary – on February 27th. Although Joe Biden won the contest, getting 81.1% of the vote, a significant number of votes went towards a different cause – “uncommitted.” People voting “uncommitted” in the primary were trying to signal that they disapprove of President Biden’s handling of the war in Gaza, and ultimately over 100,000 people voted for the “uncommitted” option. This is an important result as Michigan normally has very close elections and is a key state in determining who will ultimately win the presidency.
