Putin's Reelection

In an increasingly authoritarian Russia, it was no surprise when Vladimir Putin, who has been the Russian leader for 25 years, won another term as president of Russia. There were no formidable opposition candidates as Russians went to the polls, especially following the recent death of the most prominent Russian opposition leader, Alexei Navalny. The results from the election have almost certainly been tampered with, as Putin’s government (known as the Kremlin) seeks to prove that he has vast popular support even amidst the war in Ukraine.
