House Passes Ukraine Aid Bill

In Ukraine’s war against Russia, a crucial aspect of the Ukrainian defense is aid from other countries, chief among them the United States. The United States has supplied Ukraine with $44.2 billion in military assistance since the conflict began in February 2022, according to the Department of State. The aid and funding has given Ukraine support and much needed weapons. In this new bill, which was stymied for months by hard-right Republicans in the House of Representatives, there is the approval of $60 billion in aid to Ukraine at a time of desperate need. Ultimately, despite struggles to get passage of the bill, 311 voted in favor while only 112 people, who were exclusively Republicans, voted no. The news of passage in the House was met with relief from leaders in the war-torn country. The aid package must now go through the Senate, which should be an easier victory.
