In the United States, there are laws relating to monopolies – companies that control too much of an industry, or try to do things to reduce competition, can be sued. These laws are called antitrust laws, and they are the basis of the Department of Justice’s new lawsuit against Apple. The lawsuit claims that Apple has purposefully limited its competitors by making it more difficult for devices such as non-apple smartwatches to work with iPhones. This is just one example of lawsuits against big tech companies. Currently, there are antitrust lawsuits against Amazon and Google as well, to name a few. This case will take a long time to be decided, but if the US government wins it could lead to big changes within the technology world.
